First meal in Turkey – Kayikci Istanbul

After a delayed flight, missed connection and losing our baggage (courtesy Alitalia); we fell in love at first sight..with the streets of Istanbul. Starting with modern roads from airport and seeing young men playing football and a family having picnic nearby at midnight, to the old town with brick lanes and hilly terrain, everything which we saw was overwhelming….

Samosas

Samosas with Spinach, Corn and Goat Cheese

Samosas are the quintessential snack of India. The triangular shaped, lip-smacking pastry with savory fillings, has been around for over centuries in India. Traditionally and most commonly, vegetarian samosas are stuffed with boiled potatoes, but variations come with fillings like onion, pea, lentil and corn. Also there are the tiny ones with only spice fillings which can last for weeks (unless I am around)…..

Lebanese Pizza

Lebanese Pizza with Aubergine and Tomatoes

Za’atar is a traditional middle eastern spice blend which is a mix of sumac, sesame seeds, thyme, oregano and some other dried herbs. Its often used as a condiment or mixed with olive oil to make a spread. Applying it to a bread before baking brings out the best of the flavours and aromas of this spice. That is why I use it on the pizza during baking, and not as a table condiment.

Pasta

Fusilli Pasta with Vegetables in Arrabiata Sauce

This recipe is the result of my intuitive cooking. I find this recipe very simple to make may be because I do not need to remember the exact measurement of ingredients. Orange Cake

Eggless Orange Cakea

I love to bake cakes but I could never make my mother taste any of my cakes as my mother does not eat eggs. This time, I made this egg-less cake and it turned out amazing. This cake was intended for my friends who don’t eat eggs, but even my husband who doesn’t usually like egg-less cakes, just loved this one!  The recipe doesn’t use any egg replacer and has a wonderful citrus/orange flavor. I used both the zest and orange juice in it….

I love this dish because I can present it in various ways and it looks beautiful all the time and tastes yummy. Its really easy to make and you can always use the day old bread kept in your house. It is a perfect healthy breakfast and a good start to your day –  Eggs, berries, juice and of course my favourite – bread  :)…

Blueberry Muffins

Blueberry Muffins

It’s a season of all kind of berries. Blueberry is my favourite of all.  When I went to market today and looked at blueberries, I knew what I wanted to make. Its blueberry muffin time!!! This recipe is a bit different from my usual muffin recipe. I read a recipe in French culinary school cook book of a muffin. The recipe used sour cream in muffin. So in this recipe I used sour cream and brown sugar  and I am really happy with the texture of the muffins 🙂 . They are very soft and melt in your mouth….
