After a delayed flight, missed connection and losing our baggage (courtesy Alitalia); we fell in love at first sight..with the streets of Istanbul. Starting with modern roads from airport and seeing young men playing football and a family having picnic nearby at midnight, to the old town with brick lanes and hilly terrain, everything which we saw was overwhelming.
Foodies like Prateek and I, being vegetarians, are always worried about finding a satisfying meal in a foreign land. However, having heard so much about Turkish vegetarian food, we found it hard to concentrate on the local sight-seeing..(oops 🙂 ), and we were just waiting for dinner time!
We usually research the restaurants we go to before hand, but this time, in a mood for adventure, while walking on the streets of Sultanahmet near Basilica Cistern, we found a lovely restaurant Kayekci, where we decided to have a dinner. What a good choice it turned out to be!
They had a number of vegetarian choices, and we chose to go with a Gözleme and a Vegetable Casserole served with rice. The dishes were a treat for both the eyes and the taste buds… just the perfect amount of cheese mixed in finely chopped vegetables, chilli and yogurt dips with just the right flavor….ah I will just let the pictures speak for themselves!
